Job summary

We have a unique and truly exciting opportunity for a Specimen Reception Manager for North West London Pathology (NWLP). We are looking for a self-motivated and results-driven individual to manage the pathology specimen reception team to enable a high quality service is provided to the wider operational departments to meet KPI's and service level agreements across all sites.

The Specimen Reception Manager Lead will report to the Pathology Support Services Lead and work as part of a team of specimen reception managers. You will support the Pathology Support Services Lead for day to day delivery of a high quality diagnostic service; as well as delivery against agreed service improvement plans on schedule and within budget. You will lead service improvements projects, embed new services and working practices, bringing together the teams and developing a positive culture reflective of a high performing team.

Main duties of the job

  • To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations.
  • Contribute towards sharing good practice within the department and Trust wide.
  • To promote a positive image of the Trust at all times.
  • To work cohesively with all members of the department team in ensuring that the very best services are provided at all times.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and contributes to effective communication within the department.
  • Provides and receives complex information to inform work colleagues or external contacts e.g. other departments, G.P.'s or visitors to the department. This will include explaining acronyms used in pathology, clinical phrases and technical terminology to patients, staff at lower grades and in training.
  • Work with pathology disciplines appointed link staff to ensure specialist requirements for that discipline are implemented correctly in the reception area

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
