North West London Pathology (NWLP) is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are now offering the opportunity to join our friendly and dedicated Infection & Immunity team based at Charing Cross Hospital as a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist - Section Leader (Virology Specialist).
Applications are sought from self-motivating individuals with extensive experience in Virology (Serology and/or Molecular). Applicants should hold a Specialist Portfolio in Virology or equivalent (FIBMS, MSc). Previous experience in a Senior BMS role leading team is desirable.

Main duties of the job
Daily management of a section of the Infection & Immunity laboratory, including:
Management of staff (Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants) and staff rota's within the section
Overseeing the processing of routine patient samples for Serology and Molecular Virology testing (as well as involvement with Microbiology Serology and some Immunology).
Review of assays/quality control and release of patient results.
Overseeing general laboratory housekeeping and ongoing record keeping.
Preparation and update of local laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and associated documentation.
Advanced troubleshooting, investigation, corrective action and follow up of non conformances and incidents.
Contributing to the maintenance of the Quality Management System (to ensure the laboratory meets Accreditation standards) and Health and Safety in the laboratory.
Evaluation and implementation of new assay methods with the department
Additional special responsibilities assigned as required.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
