Main duties of the job

This newly established role of Deputy Materials & Logistics Manager is a key position working with managers and leaders across our customer bases to provide and implement effective project and programme delivery.

Under the direction of the Materials & Logistics Manager, the post holder will lead the implementation and wider project management of planned future UEL expansions and other projects. Whilst deputising for the Materials & Logistics Manager across the rest of the service. The focus is on effective and cost-efficient management of Hospital consumables and the internal movement of equipment and other items.

You will be expected to be self-motivated and take the lead in analysing data/operations tasks across wide-ranging Materials & Logistics activities including the role of a theatre kitting service. Proactively develop and roll out appropriate mitigation measures and plans and ensure all appropriate processes and procedures are developed and regularly updated to maintain a high level of service.

As an experienced Materials/Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating, monitoring and implementing the Materials and Logistics service provided to local UEL Hospital departments, utilising the UEL offsite Warehouse.

The successful applicant will have a positive can-do attitude and be able to demonstrate flexibility and initiative, providing team leadership and coordination to achieve a high standard of productivity in the most cost-effective manner.

Qualifications / training required

Essential

  • Knowledge of Supply Chain and Materials Management principles acquired through a Degree or Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Diploma or significant equivalent levels of expertise obtained from previous relevant experience in this field
  • Specialist expertise in procurement/contract management gained through training and experience or equivalent post graduate diploma qualification or equivalent

Desirable

  • NEBOSH or IOSH Health & Safety Certificate
  • Managing vehicles and drivers

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Warehouse/ Supply Chain/ Logistics Management previous experience
  • Experience in managing a team, educating and developing staff
  • Experience line managing service leads and of managing multiple operational departments
  • Experience of delivering projects on time and to budget
  • Intermediate level experience of Windows applications Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience of Purchasing order systems
  • Experience of change management
  • Report writing
