Main duties of the job
This is a new and exciting role within UHS Estates Limited. The team are responsible for the picking and the control of sterile trays & instruments within University Hospital Southampton, ensuring that they are available for Theatres when required. Alongside this, they also move equipment and audit equipment availability.
The team itself currently consists of 5 Equipment & Instrument Controllers. This service covers theatres across the 7 day week. The successful candidate will be required to work 5 days a week onsite to give direct line support in this operational role.

UEL Equipment & Instrument Supervisor.
The successful candidate will be there to provide supervision to the team. The teams task is to ensure Theatres have the equipment & instruments they require to start on time. Tasks include but not limited to, picking sterile trays/instruments and moving the equipment & Sterile instruments to the relevant locations.
A key function of the role will be liaising with the UEL & UHS Clinical teams and our Sterile Services provider (IHSS) to identify the Instruments that are not available at the time of picking. Identifying the items location and expected ETA. Taking action where required & possible to ensure the items are made available in time for the procedure to take place.
The team must pick the requirements accurately and on time using the systems available. Any errors and delays are likely to result in a delay to patient treatment. Procedures need to be put in place to ensure accuracy of the service is maintained.

- Lifting and handling boxes/trays of varying shapes, sizes and weights (up to 20kgs)
- Manoeuvre cages of goods (up to 180kgs) safely through busy corridors from Stores area to ward or department.
Qualifications / training required

- Moving and Handling
- Basic level experience of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
- General standard of education including GCSE in English and Maths.
- Diploma in Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations (CIPS)/NVQ3 in Business Administration, or similar plus in depth knowledge of Materials Management principles and process including stock control, ordering, invoicing and customer care skills to level 4 diploma equivalent.
