Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Barnsley Facilities Services here at Barnsley Hospital in the Decontamination Services Team as a Technician. The Decontamination Services Team are focused on delivering high quality, compliant services, at the right speed and cost to Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) and BFS other customers; meeting customer needs, offering high levels of customer satisfaction and a safe environment for patients, staff and service users / customers to operate within.

You will be working within a team of technicians ensuring that the decontamination process for multiple areas is conducted in a timely and efficient manner. You will have the ability to prioritise conflicting demands ensuring strict deadlines are met. This is a rewarding and demanding role involving working within a Quality Management System.

The role requires decontaminating and collecting used medical equipment from theatres, clinical areas and departments, including the disassemble, cleaning, reassemble packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices including flexible endoscopes.

The hours for this role would span Mon to Fri 08.00 to 20.00, according to the candidate preference. Please state your preference at interview. This role may have alternate Saturdays (taking a day off during the week).There is also the possibility to be on-call.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will undertake decontamination science duties and assist (under supervision) the workforce of Decontamination Technician Supervisors, in providing a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

Carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices within the ISO 13485:2016 and UK MDR 2002. Record all tasks in the Healthcare Science Information Systems (tracking and tracing) database.

Ensure all instrument sets are assembled in accordance with the sets contents lists and sterilized to laid down procedures. To ensure sterile goods are provided to all users, both internal and external, as and when required.

Work in accordance with the Departments Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.
