Job summary
We are looking
to recruit an entry level Clinical Engineer to work in the South Tyneside,
Gateshead, Durham, Washington and Sunderland community areas. You will be joining
a small team based at South Tyneside Hospital providing a comprehensive service
to users of medical equipment within South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS
Foundation Trust. The successful
applicants will be involved in the evaluation, installation, repair and
maintenance of a wide range of state or the art electronic instrumentation
covering both medical and non-medical systems within our hospital and community
health care outlets.
Candidates will
be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of the principles involved in the
maintenance of electronic instrumentation, medical devices and systems together
with an ability to diagnose faults from first principles. Knowledge of basic
physics is required, knowledge of medical devices and experience in working in
clinical areas is desirable however training will be provided for candidates
that show an ability to take onboard new knowledge and skills.
The main roll
will be to deliver our service into our community outlets therefore the post
holder will be expected to travel on a regular basis throughout South Tyneside,
Gateshead, Durham, Washington and Sunderland community areas and should hold a
full and clean diving licence.

We are looking
for a friendly and professional team member who have good interpersonal skills
and are good at interacting with a wide variety of staff across a large

- Experience working in hospital clinical environments

- Medical Device repair and maintenance experience

- The knowledge and skills to carry out repairs and servicing on electrical/electronic devices
- Familiar with the use of various computer systems
- A high level of dexterity, with the ability to manipulate small components on multi layered printed circuit boards, this will involve the use of magnifying aids and fine tools to view and manoeuvre
- Must have good eyesight and colour vision, will need to have good general level of fitness and be able to work at heights
- The ability to work alone or as part of a team, and to maintain a professional attitude often under stressful situations

- The ability to analyse and fault find on complex medical devices

- Must be able to on occasion, move heavy equipment (greater than 30kg)
- There is a requirement to carry objects weighing between 6Kg and 15Kg for short periods several times per day
- Working in awkward positions
- Requirement to sit in one position for more than one hour during calibration and maintenance checks
