CHoICE Facilities Services are seeking a passionate, hardworking and reliable individual to join our catering production team. The Central Assembly and Distribution Unit (CADU) at Sunderland Royal Hospital is lookingto recruit a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Catering Assistant (Relief).As a Catering Assistant (Relief) you would be responsible for assisting in the efficient and effective production & service of high quality of meals & beverages, including associated cleaning and hygiene related duties. The role is based in our busy assembly and production unit (CADU) which produces over 1 million meals per year. The successful candidate will be to required to work within a chilled production environment producing sandwiches and meals for a hospital setting.

This role is 24 hours per week on a rota basis between the hours of 6am- 6pm, Monday-Sunday.

Main duties of the job

General duties of a Catering Assistant (Relief) role include.

  • Full compliance of Food Hygiene England, departmental Food Safety Policy, HACCP System and local policies
  • Distribution, delivery and service of food to wards/departments
  • Production and assembly of sandwiches, salads and meals
  • Record food temperatures and food waste
  • Undertake stock management, receipt and delivery, reporting any discrepancies/damaged goods to Supervisors
  • Decanting heavy loads, portioning and packing large volumes of food in line with departmental procedures
  • Ensuring that the unit is cleaned and maintained in accordance with established cleaning schedules
  • Operation of heavy-duty industrial cleaning equipment
  • Collection, segregation and disposal of waste materials, in accordance with policies
  • Additional duties may also include working within the wider Production Unit or Patient Catering and working for long periods of time inside freezer storage rooms at air temperatures below -18c
  • Carry out any other duties deemed reasonable and in line with the banding of the post

Shift pattern consists of; 24hours per week, 5 days out of 7, between the hours of 6am and 6pm on a rota basis.
