Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious & dedicated Workshop Manager (Engineering) to manage and supervise a team of engineering craftsperson responsible for the maintenance & repair of engineering plant and equipment at buildings maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services.

The role will require the post holder to provide support to the Estates Officer (Mechanical & Electrical) through management of engineering related maintenance & installation activities undertaken by CHoICE Engineering Craftpersons and Maintenance Assistants at properties managed by CHoICE. Requiring the ability to plan & manage multiple work streams, you will be required to manage high volumes of planned, reactive & minor new work activities to ensure that CHoICEs directly employed labour is suitably & efficiently assigned and instructed, and CHoICE meets its statutory, mandatory & best practice commitments to its existing partners.

As the role is engineering related, there will be a requirement to manage multiple trades from an electrical & mechanical background and work closely with Building related staff to oversee the completion of multi-disciplinary tasks. The post holder will also be required to undertake the role of Authorised Person (AP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 for potentially multiple engineering services with the primary aim of issuing permit to work systems and supporting in the management of engineering related systems and services.

Main duties of the job

All applicants must have a positive, friendly and co-operative manner whilst being prepared to be flexible to meet the service needs of the Trust. The role will require the applicant to use their own initiative when planning and organising engineering staffs workloads as well as supporting varied craft persons and maintenance staff during the completion of a range of problem-solving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory outcome.

Whilst adapting to the changing demands of the role, the post holder will be required to be mindful of key performance indicators when allocating and overseeing the completion of planned and reactive tasks. The ability to introduce and develop new localised systems/procedures will be key, to ensure that health and safety and statutory and regulatory compliance is achieved and never compromised.

Successful applicants will need to have a knowledge of building related systems with a detailed knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems typically found within an NHS Trust. Completion of a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline or equivalent is essential as well as the completion of a formally recognised, relevant and accredited apprenticeship.

This role may require participation in an out of hours on call arrangement as per the agreed rota.
