Soft Facilities Supervisor - Operational Support

Job summary

The post is 37.5 hours per week, including week ends, late shift, night shift, unsocial hours and public holidays.

In this role, you will work predominantly with the portering and security teams, providing day to day management to the porters, security officers and helpdesk operators. There will also be a requirement to support the wider operational support teams including waste and transport, when required.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive person to join an already established team, to support the delivery of high-quality Facilities service

You will also have the opportunity to complete leadership and development training along with other training that is service specific. In this role, you will work with the Facilities supervisors and Operational Managers on specific projects and day to day service requirements.

Main duties of the job

A typical day may involve:-

  • Supervising and prioritising work and direct staff accordingly, ensuring the service is responsive to the demands placed upon it.
  • Day to day management of the porters and security officers duties and the performance of the staff within Choice
  • Communicating with service users in person as well as by telephone, and resolving any service difficulties or extra work provision.
  • Carry out first line return to work meetings as per the Choice attendance management policy
  • Authorising annual leave
  • Compiling porter and security teams rotas

The post holder will work as a member of the soft FM supervisor team, within operational support, working predominantly with the portering and security teams.

The post holder willbe responsible for:

  • Day to day management predominantly of the portering and security staff, but also providing support when required to the wider operational support teams (waste, transport, general office), to provide an efficient and effective Portering, Security, Waste and transport services to all wards and departments within the Sunderland Hospital Sites and support the delivery of excellent patient care, ensuring the service is responsive to the demands placed upon it.

  • To Supervise and prioritise work and direct staff accordingly to ensure optimum use of resources.

  • Working closely with Facilities Management team, and the clinical site managers and on call teams out of hours, week-ends and normal office hours to prioritise operational requirements

  • To ensure duties carried out by Facilities staff are completed accurately and in a timely way.

  • To undertake a rotary shift pattern covering 24 hours per day 7 days per week

  • To assist the Heads of Department and deputies in managing the duties and performance of the staff within Soft FM

  • To contribute to the on-going development and delivery of all Soft FM services

  • Supervise all aspects required for the delivery of a high quality Soft FM, ensuring that all service staff are correctly trained to fulfil their role, and that the service is in line with customer needs

  • There will be a requirement for standard driving and keyboard skills as well as a requirement for the use of equipment such as large sulo waste bins, patient trollies, and wheelchairs. This includes using the designated trolley to transport deceased

  • There will be a requirement to participate in annual Control and Restraint training to ensure support can be provided to the security team when undertaking a control and restraint in a violent situation.
