Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide Engineering Leadership and Support to Choices Capital Projects Team. Capital Projects are responsible for planning and managing significant Capital investment in the Estate by the Trust and delivered by Choice.

Acute Healthcare Building Services are complex and serve a range of patient critical functions and as such require robust management in terms of design, installation, commissioning and into operation. The overlap between installation and operation means it is critical that operational requirements are reflected within our Design Briefs. This post will be proactive in working with Operational colleagues to ensure expectations are aligned.

Delivering Capital works within a live hospital environment is challenging and requires careful planning and communication with a wide range of stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide engineering input, and leadership, working with operational colleagues to not only deliver operational requirements but to develop an proactive approach, taking into account todays requirements and tomorrows challenges such as sustainability, carbon reduction, energy reduction and renewal.

The post holder will be self-motivated, proactive and hold knowledge and experience, as well as responsibilities across all aspects of Building Services, working with Authorising Engineers and Authorised Persons to ensure investment and operations are aligned.

Main duties of the job

Based at STDH, but required to work across all sites, working as part of the Capital Projects section.

Provide dedicated Engineering support and leadership to support the Capital Projects Team.

o Building Services Engineering Design Management.

o Act as a conduit between Operational Team & Capital Projects for ensuring Operational requirements are aligned with delivery.

o Manage Operational input into Capital Projects (e.g. Planning and managing isolations, shutdowns utilising Operational Team as required etc.)

o Provide leadership on quality of Building Services installation, maintaining a standard of acceptability reflective of the needs for managing those services, once handed over for Operations and Maintaining.

o Manage Commissioning requirements, again supported by, and utilising, operational appointed Authorised Persons.

To independently manage a range of delegated projects from £5K to £20M from inception to completion, including project management, design, contract administration, site supervision and commissioning under the CHoICE Capital Programme.
