Job summary

CHoICE Facilities Services are seeking a passionate, hardworking and reliable individual to join our team and fulfil the role of Catering Assistant (Ward Host).

This role is 12 hours per week with a shift pattern of 4pm-8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Weekend working (Saturday and Sunday) carries an uplift of 30% of standard pay.

You would be responsible for assisting clinical staff in the efficient and effective production & service of a high quality of meals & beverages on several wards, for patients, staff and visitors, including associated cleaning and hygiene related duties. The role is ward based and involves collecting & delivering meals to wards for patients and can be physically demanding.

Main duties of the job

To deliver nationally recognised high quality, safe, cost effective services for the people, patients and stakeholders.

To deliver a wide range of high quality, effective & compliant Facilities Management (FM), Procurement and Pharmacy Services.

To follow food & beverage handling procedures, in accordance with national and local regulations.

Undertake stock management, receipt and delivery of stock, reporting any discrepancies or damaged goods.

Maintain the appropriate knowledge & skills to safely and effectively perform all food & beverage tasks.

Maintain a clean, tidy & hygienic appearance. Ensure that the appropriate protective clothing is worn at all times.

Distribution, delivery & service of food & beverages to wards and departments.

Ensuring all equipment, working areas, including storerooms refrigerators & freezers are kept in a clean & hygienic condition and that good hygienic practices are maintained at all times.

Carry out any other duties which are deemed reasonable and in line with the banding of the post.

Providing a food and beverage service including catering for special events to patient staff and visitors.

Preparing, assembling and packing meals for patients and staff

Collection, segregation and disposal of waste materials in accordance with policies.

Shift pattern consists of;

Friday, Saturday and Sunday 1600-2000 (12 hours)

CHoICE Catering Services are provided at Sunderland Royal Hospital & Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
