Job summary
The successful post holder will be employed by CHoICE which is the subsidiary company of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT).
The post holder will work as an integral part of the Palliative Care Team undertaking Portering, Caretaker duties and basic internal and external general maintenance, to support the efficient running and maintenance of St Benedicts Hospice in Ryhope, Sunderland.
St Benedicts Hospice has provided specialist palliative care to the people of Sunderland and surrounding districts since 1984. Care is provided by the NHS as part of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and is also supported by St. Benedicts Hospice charity.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an individual to job share with a Porter/ Caretaker already in post, at St Benedicts Hospice.
Cover is required from 0730 2030 hrs Monday to Friday, and 0800 1600 Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays.
You will be required to work opposite their job share partner and work the end of the week, and shifts will be:
Wednesday afternoon 1300 2030, Thursday & Friday 0730 2030, alternate Saturdays or Sundays.
The main elements of the Caretaker/Porter role:-
Timely opening & closing of the premises.
Comprehensive Caretaker/Porter support to all users of the building.
Undertake basic repairs to ensure effective maintenance of the building.
Ensure all potential hazards are reported using the designated procedures.
Ensure a safe environment for all staff and patients in the building and react to incidents/situations accordingly.
Carry out portering duties during the shift
The applicant must possess
- GSCE Level, in Maths & English, or equivalent qualification, Basic Numeracy & Literacy education, Grades D-G or equivalent i.e. Functional Skills Maths & English Level 2
- Demonstrate previous experience of holding a Caretaker/ Porter post
- Demonstrate an ability to work as an individual & part of a team
- Demonstrate good communication & interpersonal skills
- Have the ability to carry out minor repair & maintenance work
- Have the ability to be flexible & responsive to service needs
- Demonstrate working with the public
- Hold a current UK driving license
