Job summary

A vacancy for Full Time AfC Band 4 Senior Payroll Officers with NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP). Initially based at Companies House until relocation to CP2, Welsh Government Offices, King Edward V11 Avenue Cardiff CF10 3NQ in early 2024. The successful post holder will work as part of a payroll team providing a payroll service to NHS Wales organisations.

Must have experience working in a payroll capacity with in-depth knowledge of the Statutory Payments and Deductions, Attachment of Earnings Orders and Gross to Net Payroll Calculations. Working knowledge of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Service; Medical & Dental Terms and Conditions of Service and NHS Wales in addition to All Wales/NHS Organisations employment related policies is desirable.

Requirement to ensure payroll output is verified to standard reports for payroll consistency and accuracy. Contribute to NWSSP Payroll Services Key Performance Indicators. Participate in training of junior staff.

The successful post holder will be required to respond to payroll enquiries therefore must have excellent communication skills, be tactful, persuasive and diplomatic. The successful candidate will be required to manage customer expectations and provide an excellent customer experience when dealing with customers. To that end, experience in customer service is essential. Candidates should be IT literate and specifically will need to evidence knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Main duties of the job

Experienced Senior Payroll Officer.

Excellent working knowledge of payroll processes and procedures.

Excellent working knowledge of Statutory Payments/Deductions.

Knowledge and application of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Service (AFC), Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service (M&D) and NHS Wales/Organisation Policies and procedures.

Ability to analyse payroll/financial data.

Ability work on computerised payroll system, knowledge of working within Electronic Staff Record (ESR) will be an advantage.

Microsoft excel qualification or ability to demonstrate an excellent.

Excellent organisation skills required. Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English.

NVQ Level 4 or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience within a Payroll capacity.

The successful post holder be work as part of a payroll team but will also be required to work independently.

This is an Agile Working post so a reliable home broadband connection is required as well as suitable home-working arrangements. Office attendance will be required at times.

The successful post holder will have the benefit of the opportunity for membership of the NHS Pension Scheme and generous Annual Leave/Public Holiday entitlement.
