We're looking for anAssociate Infrastructure Engineer to join our supportive and collaborative team. This is an excellent opportunity to start or grow your career in infrastructure, working alongside experienced engineers who will guide and mentor you.

Join our Cloud & Infrastructure team and help deliver reliable, secure digital services that support healthcare across Wales. As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer, you'll work with experienced colleagues to maintain and improve on-premise, virtual and cloud systems (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

Main duties of the job

You'll assist with system maintenance, incident response and monitoring, following clear processes to ensure security, stability and accuracy. You'll collaborate with colleagues and suppliers, support projects, and contribute to service improvements.

We're looking for someone with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience, practical IT infrastructure knowledge, and hands-on experience supporting systems or cloud environments. You'll be organised, detail-focused and a great team player with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) is an expert national body and part of NHS Wales. We work in partnership with NHS Wales colleagues and other key stakeholders to provide national digital and data services which support the delivery of health and social care in Wales. Modern health and care services depend on good digital tools, data and information. DHCW runs or works with more than 100 services and delivers major national digital transformation programmes to support this. In addition, DHCW provides expert advice in relation to cyber security and information governance. We give frontline staff the digital tools which help them provide safer and more efficient care. Essential

  • Educated to Diploma or HNC, or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Knowledge gained through practical experience of providing IT support and technical assistance to users.
  • Good working knowledge of IT operating systems, standard software, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.

Desirable

  • FEDIP Associate Practitioner, or equivalent recognised foundational level professional qualification.
  • Knowledge of the NHS, other healthcare systems, or the health sector, including regional or national variations.

Experience

Essential

  • Hands-on experience supporting infrastructure operations, including routine monitoring, logging and escalating incidents following established procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team, supporting others and contributing to reliable services.
  • Aware of analysing system logs to spot performance and security problems and support investigations.
  • Aware of using cloud and virtualisation technologies to improve infrastructure and services while managing costs and security.
  • Aware of identifying and managing security risks to support cyber resilience in digital services.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining system software to manage computing resources and support automation in any environment.
