Senior Clinical Informatician Pharmacy

Job summary

DHCW is seeking a registered pharmacy professional to join the Clinical Informatics team and the Digital Services for Patients and the Public (DSPP) programme, supporting development and delivery of digital medicines features in the NHS Wales App.

The App provides access to health and care services via smartphone, tablet, or computer. Current features include requesting repeat prescriptions from general practice, with further medicines functionality due in 2025:

o Digital prescription view

o Notifications when medicines are ready at community pharmacy

o "Nominate a Pharmacy" option for digital prescriptions

The next phase is being led by the NHS Wales App Digital Medicines Project Board, with an ambitious work plan underway.

We are seeking a pharmacy professional with substantial practice experience and skills in analysis, engagement, and business change. Working with DHCW Clinical Informatics Team, the role involves shaping clinical workflows, supporting design and rollout of public-facing features, and providing input into public engagement.

Collaboration with stakeholders will be essential to drive safer, more effective ways of working. Welsh language skills are desirable; applications are welcomed in Welsh and/or English

Main duties of the job

Horizon Scanning: Monitor health and digital solution trends to shape clinical product roadmaps.

Leadership: Provide clinical leadership.

Clinical Expertise: Drive clinical outcomes, ensure patient safety, and advocate best practice.

Quality Improvement: Enhance business and clinical processes with outcome focus.

Risk Management: Manage clinical safety and risks in informatics design.

Professional Development: Maintain clinical practice knowledge and support workforce growth.

Strategic Advisory: Influence digital transformation and support health board informatics leads.

Policy Impact: Assess policy implications for informatics delivery.

Standards: Apply clinical standards to informatics.

Clinical Safety Officer: Lead on safety oversight.

Quality Assurance: Ensure systems meet clinical requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement: Manage expectations and prioritise clinically useful developments.

Governance: Implement clinical informatics governance in projects.

Care Delivery Models: Leverage knowledge of NHS Wales and UK care models.

Service Monitoring: Use informatics to monitor services and standards.

Research & Decision Making: Support evidence-based design of digital solutions.

Risk Analysis: Identify risks and provide clear analysis.

  • Professional clinical qualification and valid registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Educated to master's level in a relevant subject e.g. digital or clinical informatics related subject or equivalent experience working within the field of clinical informatics.
  • Knowledge of healthcare information systems, electronic health records, health data standards and data analysis methodologies

  • Understanding of the Welsh healthcare system to understand the context and requirements of healthcare delivery
