Job summary

Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) seeks a National Clinical Coding Training Lead to design and deliver a high-quality clinical coding training program for Wales.

The ideal candidate will have strong planning and organisational skills, a passion for clinical coding and service improvement, and the ability to innovate.

Candidates should have significant experience of working in a clinical coding role and have passed the national Clinical Coding Qualification and attained Accredited Clinical Coder status.

This role involves collaborating with IT specialists, clinicians, and informaticists to develop clinical coding training content, including e-learning packages and classroom courses.

Candidates should be an Approved Clinical Coding Trainer or willing to obtain accreditation, with extensive knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS 4 codes, experience across specialties, and an understanding of clinical coding data applications.

Main duties of the job

Lead on the development, management and delivery of an effective and comprehensive Clinical Coding training programme for NHS Wales.

Devise bespoke clinical coding training material for use in e-learning packages, ensuring that the courses meet the needs of the clinical coders and that the highest level of competency and accreditation is maintained.

Provide support and guidance around the design, development, delivery and evaluation of clinical coding e- learning packages for Digital Health & Care Wales and the wider NHS Wales.

If not already accredited they will aim to achieve NHS Digital accredited trainer status to deliver licensed training workshops as published by the Clinical Classifications Service as required by the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Develop and maintain relationships with all levels of NHS Staff providing them with training, advice and support.

Work effectively with clinical coding staff to highlight areas of learning and improvement.

Deliver the mandatory clinical coding training courses to clinical coding staff across NHS Wales.

Make recommendations and where appropriate, implement the most appropriate solutions for the training needs of the Health Boards.

Develop a library of e-learning modules, ensuring that complex clinical coding and medical information is communicated in an effective manner to support learning.

Receive and review complex clinical information and translate the documentation into a case study for training uses.

Lead the Clinical Coding Training Group, using persuasive skills to collaboratively agree on the design and scope of the e-learning programme.

Advise the Classifications Standards Manager on areas for individual or specialty-based training.

Develop lesson plans, course documentation, interactive material, storyboards assessments and certificates for e-learning training courses.

Determine the most effective means of communicating information, including methods such as group forums, case discussions and newsletters.

Assist in the evaluation of training delivered and respond to user queries in a pleasant, timely and accurate manner.

Develop, maintain and analyse on-line questionnaires and surveys to assess user training requirements.
