Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity for a motivated data engineer to take the next step in their career whilst supporting critical workstreams. If you are someone with the drive to improve patient outcomes, with the desire and aptitude to implement technical initiatives then this role is perfect for you.

This role will be supporting the work on combining the current DHCW Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) with the National Data Resource using Google Cloud technology. Full training will be provided.

The ideal candidate will combine a blend of strong team skills with technical flair in developing and coordinating key data flows into the new environment, to support new and existing critical workstreams.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in Health and Care data, whilst demonstrating proficiency in database methodologies and the Structured Query Language (SQL), data modelling and ETL and Cloud technologies.

Depending on experience we may offer the post as a Band 5 Data Engineer. If appointed as a Data Engineer, progression to the next pay band is dependent on meeting an agreed set of competency criteria managed through Personal Development Review (PDR). Once those criteria are met you will automatically progress to a Band 6.

Main duties of the job

Experience of working of the NHS and clinical knowledge would be advantageous, however practical experience and knowledge of the following would be particularly desirable:

  • SQL proficiency
  • The ability to build comprehensive Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) routines
  • Managing Stakeholder requirements, expectations
  • Delivering technically innovative solutions in a timely manner
  • Comprehensive documentation skills
  • A champion of Data Warehouse methodologies and best-practice.
  • Problem solving ability
  • Proficient communication ability (verbal and written)

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
