Experienced Primary Care Paramedic

Job summary

Battersea PCN Ltd is looking for an experienced, motivated, paramedic to join our existing team of 3 paramedics. This is a new role to expand our service provision across all our PCN practices, lead by our new appointed Paramedic Team Lead. You will be working in 2-3 of the 5 GP practices, with friendly, forward-thinking practice staff. Previous experience in a GP practice is required, and an Independent Prescribing qualification is preferred.

The Paramedic Practitioner will work autonomously within the GP practices, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to provide first-point-of-contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems such as minor illness or injury, and assessment of patients with long-term conditions. We provide a supportive clinical and educational environment, working collaboratively with GPs and other clinical colleagues.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will work closely with our GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, and administrative and reception teams. You will have good time-management skills and be able to prioritise tasks and work independently.

The role will be varied, and will include -

  • Prescribing and/or supporting safe prescribing
  • Home visits
  • Providing urgent care
  • Patient assessment and treatment

Main duties of the job

  • Assess and triage patients and provide appropriate treatment or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team.
  • Assess patients presenting with acute illness or for review of chronic disease conditions
  • Undertake home visits for acute illness or chronic disease management
  • Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly including those with complex needs
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug and non-drug based treatment methods into a management plan
  • Advise patients on general healthcare an promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to other community or voluntary services
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote health lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care
  • Perform specialist health checks and reviews; with investigatory procedures as required.
  • Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs etc
  • Communicate at all levels across internal and external organisations ensuring that an effective, patient-centred service is delivered.
  • Independent prescribing. We will consider applications from Paramedic Practitioners who have not yet achieved this they would be supported to do so in time.

  • HCPC registered paramedic with no current issues under investigation Educated to degree/diploma level in paramedicine or equivalent Level 3 Safeguarding (children)
  • Evidence of progress through, or completion of the First Contact Practitioner Roadmap to Practice (stage 1&2)

Desirable

  • Independent Prescriber qualification (or working towards)
  • Post-graduate/Masters level qualification or equivalent advanced practice training
