Kent Local Medical Committee represents all GPs across Kent and Medway, working with a number of NHS and other organisations to make certain that the profession is well represented.

To ensure the LMC is well placed to continue this valuable work we are looking to appoint someone with extensive general practice experience as a provider or a commissioner to join our team.

If you have the ability to engage and influence others at a senior level, we would like to hear from you. You must be a confident team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

This pivotal role is varied and challenging and involves you providing authoritative advice to GPs and their Managers as well as representing their interests directly and indirectly within the wider system. A flexible approach and ability to develop the role is essential.

This senior post will be based in Harrietsham and currently involves a combination of working from home and the LMC office. The successful candidate will be required to travel to meetings across Kent & Medway making car ownership essential.

Salary is negotiable depending on experience with a contributory non-NHS pension and 6 weeks annual leave entitlement.

Kent Local Medical Committee acts as the official democratic representative voice of Kent General Practitioners. The LMC is a Committee of general practitioners elected on a constituency basis by local GPs.

To work with members of the Secretariat, LMC Chair, Executive, LMC representatives, and constituent GPs to facilitate the development of Primary Care and General Practice.

To develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of the ICB and particularly the primary care team.

To provide authoritative advice and assistance to GPs and their Practice Managers on all aspects of their contractual and business responsibilities, with the ability to signpost where appropriate.

To support general practice in all your work at the LMC.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Work with other members of the LMC Secretariat and representatives of the LMC to identify the views of local GPs, particularly with regard to the development of Primary Care and General Practice.

Provide general practice contracting expertise to the LMC.

Respond to enquiries from GPs, Practice Managers, PCNs, ICB, NHS England and others as required on a range of issues including:

  • Contractual, employment and partnership matters
  • Premises, pharmacy and dispensing matters
  • Confidential advice on personal matters
  • Professional standards, ethics, conduct and performance
  • Complaints (individual, confidential help and support)
  • Disputes
  • GP IT
  • Confidentiality and consent issues including GDPR
  • GP staff training
  • GPAS
  • FTSUG enquiries
  • CQC

To assist in the provision of appropriate and timely communications to general practice.

Assist ICB in their decision making through the provision of advice on General Practice and national and local policy affecting GPs.

Provide a general practice perspective into, and comment upon, ICB strategic and other plans affecting Primary Care Practitioners, collating LMC responses as appropriate.

Attend the LMC meeting of Representatives, Executive Sub-Committee, LMC/ICB Liaison and other meetings as required.
