Job summary
As a Specialist Nurse in Research for Organ Donation, you will play a key role in progressing NHS Blood and Transplants strategy and supporting safe, high quality donation services across the UK. Youll work alongside the Innovation and Research Lead to deliver research programmes, guide new transplant initiatives, and translate evidence into meaningful service improvements. This is an influential role where your expert clinical insight will shape national policy, support operational change, and strengthen the donor pathway. Youll also act as an advisor to senior forums and project groups, ensuring research outcomes are implemented safely and effectively. With national visibility across the donation service, youll collaborate with clinicians, researchers and stakeholders to drive innovation that ultimately helps save and improve more lives.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Nurse Research you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of discrete and specific business initiatives supporting the safe and efficient delivery of the Organ Donation Service across the UK. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting clinical research studies and new transplant initiatives, offering clinical and operational support during the research programme.
- Providing highly specialised advice acting as an advisory specialist expert to UK national project and other Advisory Groups.
- Contributing to the development of strategic plans in partnership with the Innovation and Research Lead and fellow senior management team members.
- Working with the OTDT Clinical Team to support the delivery of the Organ Donation and Transplantation 2030: Meeting the Need Strategy and evaluating the effectiveness of actions against the objectives of the strategy.
- Acting as the operational link for the National Quality in Organ Donation (QUOD) Research initiative in conjunction with Oxford University, and supporting implementation of any licensing updates and changes as required.
- You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

- RGN/RN on part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Register.
- Relevant post graduate degree or equivalent qualification in a health or related field/job related experience to post graduate degree level.
- Post graduate experience in the field of critical care or equivalent.
- Educated to masters Level in a subject relevant to service area (for example Critical Care) OR equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD) to maintain up to date knowledge and ongoing competence in the acute hospital setting and to develop highly specialist knowledge of organ donation.
- Requirement for NMC professional registration required (which must be maintained in the role.
