Job summary

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-profile, Chief Executive office. You will be responsible for managing the Chief Executive Office and supporting the Executive Team to ensure that patients and donors are provided with the highest possible level of care.

The successful candidate will use their outstanding communication skills and political sensitivity to provide briefing and advice for the Chief Executive, UK Health Departments and others. They will build strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, patient and community groups, to help inform and drive NHS Blood and Transplants strategic direction and objectives. Working to the Chief of Staff, they will use their strong organisational skills to ensure that the CEO office is run effectively.

This is a fixed-term 10-month posting, to provide maternity leave cover.

Note: This is a national role requiring the candidate to be able to travel frequently across the UK, to meet business needs. A hybrid working option is available, but for most of the working week, you will be in the West End Donor Centre (where the CEO is based) or attending meetings in person. You will be assigned a base location, which could be one of the NHSBT main centres or blood centres in London.

Main duties of the job

You'll be responsible for leading the provision of an efficient and high quality, professional and well co-ordinated central office and help ensure the Chief Executive Officers responsibilities and objectives are delivered. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a dynamic team delivering support for the CEO.
  • Working to the Chief of Staff and in collaboration with the Company Secretary and senior leadership to ensure strategic objectives are delivered efficiently.
  • Maintaining a high-performing central office function, enabling CEO and DCEO to focus on vision and strategy while day-to-day activities are managed.
  • Supporting planning and long-term strategic direction and identify/remove barriers to organisational activity.
  • Researching, collating and analysing qualitative and quantitative data to provide briefing which will inform decision-making.
  • Providing effective secretariat support for Executive Team meetings, ensuring briefing and alignment with NHSBT policies and strategies.
  • Acting as liaison between CEO Office, Executive Team, Strategy Team, Company Secretary, wider organisation, and external stakeholders.
  • Leading special projects for the CEO, including development of evidence-based policies, strategies, and implementation plans.
  • Supporting CEO and DCEO Office HR and recruitment activity.
  • Managing written and verbal communication with donors, patients, staff, stakeholders, and customers on behalf of the CEO, including inbox management and escalated matters.
