Specialist Nurse Tissue Donation

Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) provide vital services to the NHS, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. As a key member of the Nursing team within OTDT, you will play an essential role, working within the National referral centre team to facilitate tissue donation, from donors across the UK.

The tissue donation programme is under growth so you will also have the opportunity to be involved in the development and implementation of strategies in conjunction with the NRC Matrons to expand the donation programme, training and clinical standards.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for the Triage of potential deceased tissue donors, undertaking the clinical and practical assessment for suitability.
  • You will evaluate the information and where appropriate will speak with the family of the donor to ascertain consent and donor selection.
  • You will be responsible for advising referring professionals with regard to donor suitability of potential donors.
  • At all times acting as ambassador for Tissue donation building relationships to enhance partnership working in the wider NHS.
  • You will be responsible for taking consent and donor selection for deceased donors The National Referral Centre is open from 08.00 to 20.00 seven days per week. You will be required to work shift patterns, weekends and bank holidays to cover these hours. There be occasional travel involved.
  • You will have knowledge of the regulatory requirements within Tissue Donation and the Human Tissue Act (2004) This role will be based at Liverpool Blood Centre, Speke. The normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week, working 4/5 days over 7 days on a shift rota. Exact days/hours to be discussed and agreed with successful candidate.
