We have an exciting opportunity for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with post graduate training to join our Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory. Our laboratory carries out testing for renal and stem cell transplantation for NHS teaching Hospitals in Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham and Leicester. We are also a supra regional centre involved in the provision of HLA selected platelets and immunogenetic diagnostic testing to many hospitals in the Midlands and North of England. The H&I department is located in a purpose built NHSBT centre near J37 of the M1 at Barnsley with a high standard of laboratory and other facilities.

Main duties of the job

In this role as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist within H&I, you will be required to analyse, interpret, validate and report the results of specialist Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics investigations. Your duties will include :-

  • Performing, analysing and interpreting both molecular and serological based testing in relation to solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplant, the provision of HLA selected platelets and immunogenetic services.
  • Assisting with quality management within the laboratory, under the direction of the Clinical Scientists Section Head and Laboratory Operations Manager.
  • Contributing to the coordination and supervision of the work, training and conduct of other scientific and support staff.
  • You will be required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota.
Willing to provide cover during periods of operational difficulty (with reasonable notice).
