Head of Service Delivery - ODT Hub

The closing date is 19 November 2025

Job summary

At NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) we provide vital services improving patient outcomes and saving lives. We are looking for a Head of Service Delivery for our Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) Hub which is the very heart of the donation and transplantation pathway, and this is a critical role in the delivery of our strategy. You will be joining us to ensure continued development of the operating model for the service and will be the clinical and strategic lead for the ODT Hub, as well as ensuring the safe and resilient operations of the existing services during its continued transformation.

Our Head of Service Delivery-ODT Hub, will be primarily based in Bristol but required to travel throughout the UK and spend time away from base on occasion. This will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice. Given the nature of our service, you will be required to participate in a shared on-call rota covering 24/7 x 365 days per year, involving some unsocial hours working.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will ensure that referrals of potential donors are received and directed promptly, and that clinical and logistical services are provided to transform the donation opportunities into transplant outcomes effectively and efficiently. You will lead the continued development of this service, to reflect best clinical and operational practice, including the recommendations of the UKs Solid Organ Advisory Groups.

You will oversee the ODT Hub team, ensuring that the processes and procedures are customer-focused and designed to minimise any risks of error. Working closely with other members of the wider ODT Hub and corporate teams, you will need to ensure that the service is resourced appropriately and that it can take advantage of appropriate technology to support the function.

You will need to build effective relationships with the Organ Donation Service, the National Organ Retrieval Services and the UKs Transplant Centres to ensure that the pathway is designed and managed to achieve the best results for patients from referral to transplant. As a key member of the ODT Hub management team and provide support for, and act-up for, the Assistant Director as required.

You will line manage the Operations Manager ODT Hub and other staff as required to deliver the strategic vision, whilst serving as business lead for projects in support of the ODT Hub programme and other transformation initiatives.
