Job Summary

This exciting role will allow you to help support service delivery and achievement of key performance indicators for this team.

You will have a range of office skills and ability and will work alongside the team in office and Blood Donation sessions working with a variety of different IT systems and other systems of work.

People skills and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders within NHSBT is essential and you will be able to manage different workloads to achieve deadlines and compliance.

Blood Donation is a fast paced changing environment and you will be on board with local as well as national initiatives to ensure the sufficiency of supply in Blood Collections.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Senior Sister (SS) / Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) to enable effective communication systems and relationships on the team, and across different disciplines and professions promoting partnership working to achieve key performance indicators.
  • Maintain a donor / people focused approach on all communications, which may be highly complex and sensitive.
  • Support the performance of Donor Carers and Donor Care Supervisors through coaching, mentoring and personal development reviews.
  • Deliver presentations, e.g., health and safety, quality improvements and specific change issues, to all staff, ensuring understanding of information.
  • Ensure the team receives a motivational and effective daily brief Deliver mandatory training to achieve team and individual compliance including Emergency Planning, Health and Safety, Safe Systems at work.
  • In conjunction with the session nurse ensure records are maintained to ensure all staff are trained, revalidated and competent in their skills.
  • Administrative responsibility for staff rosters which ensure planned sessions are appropriately staffed according to size, complexity, and skill mix requirements under the direction of the SS/ SCN.
  • Adapt and manage rosters daily, due to unforeseen circumstances e.g., Sickness Respond to and solve problems on the session, to make changes/adapt to meet donor needs.
  • Escalate and report issues that may impact on session activity and performance where support is needed and mitigate any risks.

  • Degree or equivalent in Business related subject or equivalent work experience.
  • ECDL, / or equivalent in computer skills training or evidence of substantial experience of Microsoft office applications as an equivalent.
  • Supervisory or first line management Qualification, or able to demonstrate significant experience as a line manager/supervisor
  • Possess a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
