Job summary

The best part of being a part of the Clinical Support Team is knowing that you are providing a vital role in ensuring the safety of the blood supply. As a Senior Nurse Practitioner, you will use your clinical knowledge to assess the eligibility of donors to give blood, deal with donors who have donation related complications, raise and take part in the investigation of quality issues and use your interpersonal skills to help resolve donor related complaints.

There is ample opportunity to increase your knowledge of Transfusion Medicine. You will enjoy the challenges of being involved in clinical audit and quality improvement. In addition to working for a unique, national NHS Employer, we will provide you with an extensive induction and ongoing development programme specific to this role to support you in achieving your career ambitions.

Main duties of the job

  • Accountable for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care to blood and bone marrow donors.
  • Providing excellent post donation product management and expert advice to NHSBT departments and external organisations.
  • Acting with a high level of autonomy, the post holder will demonstrate critical thinking and skills in clinical decision making.
  • Working collaboratively with the organisation to meet the needs of donors and supporting the delivery of safe blood products.
  • Contributing to the wider development and strategic direction of the Clinical Support Team.
  • Communicating effectively with a broad spectrum of professionals, internal and external to the organisation, such as medical staff and General Practitioners, records and administrative staff, National Contact Centre, Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and other NHSBT departments.
  • You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice
