Job summary

Want to be part of a team that helps save lives every day? In this role, you'll be out on the road, collecting and delivering blood, equipment, and people to hospitals and donation centres around the country. Sometimes that means making urgent, blue-light deliveries during emergencies. We're a 24/7 service, so youll work a mix of shiftsincluding nights, weekends, and bank holidays. If you're calm under pressure, good with people, and up for working on the go, this could be a great fit. Well make sure youre fully trained, kitted out with a uniform, and supported with development opportunities to help you grow in the role.

Main duties of the job

In this role, youll drive our vehicles to collect and deliver blood, equipment, and supplies. Youll be responsible for keeping your vehicle in good shape and making sure everything gets to the right place safely and on time. Heres what youll be doing: Driving different types of vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes), or up to 3.5 tonnes in some areas (Tooting, Basildon, Lancaster, and Southampton) Using handheld digital devices and keeping accurate electronic and paper records Loading, unloading, setting up and taking down equipment. Sometimes lifting items up to 20kg, with or without lifting aids. Occasionally making emergency Blue Light deliveries (well train you for this) Giving great service to everyone you meet, whether thats colleagues, donors, hospital staff or members of the public. This is a 24/7 role with rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications

Essential

  • You must have a full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points (this will be checked with the DVLA)
  • You need a category B licence as a minimum, however if you have a C1 licence thats a bonus.
  • Youll need to meet our NHSBT driving standards (this will be assessed as part of the interview process)

Experience

Essential

  • Youll have experience of driving for work or ability to youre a confident and capable driver previous vocational driving experience or evidence of driving proficiency
  • Youre comfortable using digital hand held devices and basic computer programmes like Microsoft Office
  • You have good knowledge of the area and know your way around the local roads
  • You know how to carry out basic checks to keep a vehicle in good condition
