Job summary

Working as part of the Hospital Services team you will be responsible for the validation, storage and issue of blood components that come in from donors. This is a vital part of the organisation, as the department is responsible for providing hospitals with the blood products that go on to save people lives. Join us and youll handle a wide range of tasks, including the labelling of blood donations, working as a team to meet the demands of hospital requests and correct handling and storage of blood components. Well also look to you to keep our computerised audit trail records up-to-date and to make sure that any incoming blood supplies are properly received and accounted for. Its a role that demands great team working skills, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to precisely follow written instructions. Ideally, we would also like to see GCSEs at grades C or above in Maths and English or another equivalent qualification, such as an NVQ.

Main duties of the job

Processing the blood donations from our donors, with the support of your supervisor and other team members Testing of blood samples or validation/issue of processed blood components Undertaking precise repetitive and routine tasks, carrying out manipulation of equipment and handling blood bags and blood samples/donations on a regular basis Handling blood bags and a range of equipment Manually handling equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training You will be required to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice
