Job summary
The role is an operational manager for the Non-Clinical Issue laboratories located across Cambridge and Filton. There will be some expectation to travel across both sites, although base location will be either Cambridge or Filton.
You will be responsible for set up and maintenance of the laboratories involved with product development activities within the Non-Clinical Issue function within NHSBT, and associated provision of donated material for research and development to support lifesaving and improvement work.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will provide operational management support to the non-clinical issue department within NHSBT Clinical Services directorate on a day-to-day basis. Your responsibilities include:
Supporting the Product Manager for donated materials for research and development and the wider NCI team to ensure efficient operations of the Non-Clinical Issue functions including implementation of systems for resource and financial planning, document management, data management and adherence to governance arrangements for delivery of a quality service.
Deputising for the Product Manager for Donated Materials for Research & Development responsibility and accountability for delivering NCIs minimum annual income budget.
Leading Product Development as part of business development, utilising scientific skills to harness future product pipelines for non-clinical uses to support R&D.
Supporting new customer requests and business opportunities, performing initial assessment of scientific and operational feasibility.
Line management responsibility including all associated line management activities.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required (with prior notice) and to provide cover during operational emergencies.

- Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of regulatory and clinical governance environment for clinical research in the UK and internationally, and experience in ensuring clinical research projects comply with standards associated with regulatory, governance and associated accreditation standards.
- Experience of leading on projects associated with customer demand and supply this includes documentation development, managing change control, writing reports and development of business cases for senior management approval and investment committees.
- Expert knowledge of project methodology and processes and procedures governing the conduct & monitoring of research projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and other relevant guidelines
- Substantial experience of scientific validations and service improvement initiatives as part of project management.
- Experience of financial administration of project budgets, including development and monitoring of budgets across several projects.
