Job summary

This role is essential to the success of the Professional Development and Education Team within the Nursing Directorate, responsible for the training and development within the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation (OTDT) directorate. Workstream leadership, managing change, influencing and motivating the team are key attributes to the success of this role. Effective diary management and prioritisation of competing demands are essential elements to the success of this leadership role. There will be the requirement to align with operational teams and focus on key performance metrics. The role involves project management, service development, strategy writing, objective setting and education evaluation and continuous improvement.

The post holder will be expected to be accessible to the professional development team working collaboratively with operational teams with an ability to undertake necessary conversations to improve and manage performance. Maintaining and promoting good working relationships and stakeholder engagement is essential to achieving OTDT goals and objectives.

An awareness of budget management, constraints and spending controls, the post holder will be engaged with recruitment and development of team members, utilising coaching, debriefing and feedback skills.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Senior Nursing Team, the post holder will:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Education and Professional Development to implement a training strategy for Organ and Tissue Donation Team Specialist Nurses (SNs) that enhances potential and supports a safe workforce.
  • Develop and deliver education and professional programs for SNs and support staff aligned with NHSBT, OTDT Corporate Strategy, and nursing initiatives.
  • Ensure SN education adapts to service changes with cost-effective systems that align with organizational goals.
  • Lead projects with the Head of Education to improve clinical and corporate services. Establish revised policies and standards to enhance evidence-based practices.
  • Network externally to identify best practices and training aligned with the directorate's strategy.
  • Engage in research and evaluation in donation and transplantation, including audits.
  • Facilitate change management with Regional Heads of Nursing and Lead Nurses.
  • Participate in an on-call rota (1 in 12) for coaching, mentoring, and supervision of SNs, ensuring attention to all Organ Donation priorities.

Willingness and ability to undertake travel and spend time away from base to meet the requirements of the post (with appropriate prior notice).

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse Adult or Paediatric Nurse
  • MSc level qualification in a relevant health care or education field or equivalent work based knowledge and experience along with commitment to study to MSc level.
  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge in organ donation
  • Teaching knowledge / qualification to ENB 998 level or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid driving licence allowing the holder to drive in the UK.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
