Job summary

The Chair of the National Transfusion Research Network (TRN) provides leadership and independent oversight to ensure the network achieves its goals of advancing clinical transfusion research, promoting high-quality scientific research, and improving patient outcomes. The Chair promotes collaboration between network members, drives strategic planning, and ensures effective governance of the TRNs activities.

Main duties of the job

The Chair is responsible for the following areas:

  • Provide strategic leadership to guide the direction and priorities of the TRN. Ensure the networks activities align with its objectives.
  • Lead the Steering Committee ensuring decisions are made collaboratively and transparently.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, respect, and scientific integrity within the network. Support the development and implementation of research protocols and projects within the network.
  • Ensure research initiatives are scientifically rigorous, clinically relevant, and ethically sound.
  • Facilitate peer review and quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of research.
  • Promote the translation of research findings into practice to improve transfusion safety, effectiveness, and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

Experience

Essential

  • Training and experience equivalent to that required for entry to the specialist register
  • Experience of delivering research as an investigator and excellent general research delivery expertise.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate priorities, and effectively engage and influence others at all levels internally and externally, including through presentations and public speaking.
