Job summary
The Red Cell Immunohaematology department provides reference and blood provision services to regional hospitals using advanced red cell immunohaematology techniques. Your essential role in the processing, testing, storing and distribution of blood and blood products will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives. We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions. As part of the selection process, you will be invited to attend our Blood Centre, so that you can gain an understanding of the requirements of this essential role.
Main duties of the job
Working within the RCI Reagents Production Laboratory as a Higher Healthcare Technical Officer (HHTO), you will have the opportunity to learn skills and train to be an essential member of our Reagents team. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting with the manufacturing, dispensing and labelling of in vitro diagnostic products. These are manufactured from blood donation components (red cells and plasma) plus a range of chemical products. Following written instructions and ensuring the services you provide are in line with standard processes and good practice, showing attention to detail. Undertaking routine and non-routine tasks, some of which may be of a repetitive nature. Ensuring all activities are documented, keeping accurate records throughout all aspects of the job role. Providing support and training to less experienced staff once trained and competent in the task. Handling equipment and consumables on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with appropriate training. You will be required to to participate in a shift working rota which may include evening, weekend or public holiday workings.
