Job summary

The Molecular Diagnostics department provides a range of blood grouping tests using molecular techniques for NHS and international customers. Tests are focused on prediction of fetal blood group using free fetal DNA in maternal plasma for pregnant women with potential blood group incompatibility with their fetus, and patient blood group using DNA, where serological tests cannot be performed. We also provide a national fetal RHD screening service to support targeted antenatal RhIg prophylaxis for D negative pregnant women. Main duties of the job

You will be required to perform, analyse, record and interpret a wide range of laboratory investigations and technical procedures relating to the issue of patient test results for organ transplant and blood transfusion and the issue of blood and tissue products, with the support of the team. You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced laboratory and adminstrative staff. You will be required to handle blood and tissue samples and operate a range of laboratory analysers and equipment. You will be required to communicate with the general public, other NHSBT departments and external contacts as required. We have 2x Biomedical Scientist (B5) positions available working Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. Both roles may require you to work variable hours and days with reasonable notice. The laboratory working hours are 07:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday.
