Consultant in Blood Transfusion Medicine - PBM, Components & Donor

Applications are invited for this innovative post based in any of the NHSBT national sites. This is an opportunity to become a senior member of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) Clinical Transfusion Team, providing expert advice and leadership in Transfusion and Donor Medicine. Key duties include making an active contribution to the safety of donors and patients. This includes donor and patient blood group matching, collaborating with the red cell immunology and patient blood management teams, as well donor medical team engaged with donor selection, donation safety and management of adverse donor/patient events. You will represent the clinical team on various national committees, operational project teams and ad hoc working groups.

You will be required to participate in Transfusion/donor medicine daytime cover and out-of-hours on call rotas (category B) following discussion and agreement on appointment.

Main duties of the job

NHSBT is the sole provider of blood components and organs for transplantation to the NHS as well as supplying tissues and haemopoietic stem cells for transplantation, therapeutic apheresis and immuno-haematological diagnostics. NHSBT has a Research and Development programme in collaboration with leading academic centres.

Induction and post CCT training in the specialist aspects of the role will be provided to candidates who can offer the essential core capabilities but is required to have some patient blood management and transfusion experience.
