Job summary

Main duties of the job

We strive to deliver a truly integrated logistics service, and with you managing one or more of our Transport sites we will be one step closer to cementing that vision. We are committed to improving how we operate, and as such, you will determine what changes need to be made within all functions that perform driving duties. Putting the measures in place to bring your ideas to life, you will analyse working practises and procedures, identifying any weaknesses. Making resourcing decisions, you will collect information on the performance of staff at all levels, and you will be capable of presenting potentially contentious information relating to practise changes to large staff groups. You will also present your recommendations to senior colleagues, and you will use your specialist logistics knowledge to organise and solve complex logistics-related activities. Seeing to it that our fleet of vehicles are fit for purpose, you will ensure the team are complying with all mandatory regulations.

Essential

  • Postgraduate (NVQ Level 6) qualification in management field, or equivalent experience or knowledge gained within Logistics environment.
  • Certificate of professional competence Road Haulage National.
  • A working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, covering risk assessments and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.
  • Working knowledge to BSI/ISO regulation

  • Proven people management experience.
  • Proven transport management experience.
  • A proven record of previous budgetary management for multiple sites.
  • A highly developed knowledge of current Road Transport and Operators licensing legislation
  • Proven ability of cross functional working and service development through promotion of team working
  • Ability to develop and improve a department through identifying and introducing best practise.
  • A proven record of using computer software packages, such Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent
  • Experience of Transportation, Logistical, Fleet, IT, Planning and Management systems
  • Experience of managing within a Trade Union environment, where developed negotiating, motivational and persuasive skills are required.
  • Experience within a customer service environment, where there is a requirement for service development and improvement, often using contentious information to provide overall efficiency savings to the wider NHS.
  • Experience of using internal and external auditable systems to improve departmental practice.
