Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage the Quality Control (QC) department at Filton. The CBC (Clinical Biotechnology Centre) has recently moved to a brand-new facility and has begun manufacturing of gene therapy products alongside the introduction of LV and AAV product platforms.
This role involves the day-to-day management of the QC department, including scheduling workload, working closely with the QA department to manage deviations, and regular interaction with our clients. It will suit an experienced, highly organised Quality Control Scientist with highly specialised biotechnology, biopharmaceutical related knowledge and scope of practice in the testing of molecular advanced therapy investigational medicinal products.
This is a 6-month fixed term contract to cover paternity leave and will involve a period to handover the department.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be responsible for Quality Control on the MHRA licence for the facility and responsible for the organisation and running of the QC laboratory to meet expected MHRA regulations/Good Manufacturing Processes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day activities of the laboratory, dealing with service provision for routine GMP grade gene therapy and recombinant protein products.
- Managing and supporting across the team and being an expert for CBC quality related queries.
- Contributing to the work of the MHRA regulated laboratory service section, including development and implementation of new procedures to a quality standard.
- Overseeing and performing complex quality investigations into any deviations or quality related matters with stakeholders such as Quality Assurance.
- Presenting at MHRA Inspections, self-inspections, supplier audits to represent the activities of the QC department, along with being present and contributing effectively at Quality related meetings within the department to GMP expectations.
- Providing operational cover for the Head of Department (where necessary) and departmental manager consistent with NHSBT strategy.
- Attending multi-centre/national meetings.
