Job summary
The Cellular and Molecular Therapies (CMT) function of NHSBT comprises 8 laboratories throughout the country, developing and delivering a range of life saving therapies. The CMT department at NHSBT Barnsley provides haematopoietic cell processing and storage services for bone marrow transplant programmes in Yorkshire. The laboratory also incorporates an Advanced Therapies Unit (ATU) where we work with academic and commercial partners to develop and produce novel cellular investigational medicinal products for use in clinical trials. We currently have an opportunity for a highly motivated Cell Therapy Advanced Specialist based at our site in Barnsley. You will be working on the development of novel cellular therapies and their transfer to GMP.
Main duties of the job
For this role we require an experienced Scientist with advanced Cellular and Molecular therapy knowledge and scope of practice to:- Analyse, interpret, validate, and report the results of complex investigations, working at the level of responsibility and conduct required of an experienced Senior Scientist Develop and validate methods for QC and manufacture of advanced therapeutic medicinal products. This requires the use of complex scientific techniques such as cell culture, multiparametric flow cytometry, PCR based analysis/bioinformatics. Operation and maintenance of specialised equipment to the required standards Perform manufacturing steps for novel cell therapies to GMP standards in a Grade B or Grade C clean room environment Receive and communicate highly complex and specialist advice to/from internal and external scientists, sponsors, and other staff on for example, the significance of test results Ensure cells and/or tissue products meet all specifications necessary for patient safety and therapeutic use according to internal and external quality requirements and operating within the boundaries of good manufacturing and laboratory practice.
