Job summary
You will be working as part of a clinical team, including clinicians, nurses and other health care professionals and the role you perform will directly contribute to saving and improving patients lives. The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory carries out HLA typing, cross-matching, antibody screening and chimerism monitoring in support of solid organ and stem cell transplantation, the provision of specialist blood products and immunogenetic and disease association testing. We have direct involvement with clinicians attending regular clinical meetings for renal and stem cell transplantation. Working within a modern laboratory environment you will be operating some of the latest laboratory analysers and testing systems to produce accurate and timely test results. Tests include molecular (DNA) based, including next generation sequencing, chimerism monitoring and multiplex solid phase platform assays. There are many opportunities for career advancement. Main duties of the job
In this role as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist within H&I, you will be required to analyse, interpret, validate and report the results of specialist Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics investigations. Your duties will include :- Analysing and performing both molecular and serological based testing in relation to solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplant and immunogenetic services Assisting with the supply of HLA selected platelet units, providing advice to clinicians Communicating specialist results to internal and external clinicians, other healthcare colleagues and scientific staff on for example test results Assisting with quality management issues within your section of the laboratory, under the direction of the Clinical Scientists Section Head and Laboratory Operations Manager Contributing to the coordination and supervision of the work, training and conduct of scientific and support staff. With appropriate training and experience you will be required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and exceptionally to provide cover in times of operational difficulty for which notice will be given.
