Job summary
The Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I) function supports haematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplant programmes for hospitals throughout England. It also provides transfusion, molecular diagnostics for blood grouping and fetal RHD screening and genotyping, platelet and granulocyte immunology investigations and donor services for the British Bone Marrow Registry, NHS Cord Blood Bank and platelet supply chain. The H&I management team support six national H&I laboratories in the delivery of H&I services to the NHS and the wider healthcare community. Were looking for a Bioinformatics Specialist. You will have the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy and precision and be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team in an environment of changing pressures and practices. This is a role based out of Colindale, North London but can be national for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) function supports haematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplant programmes at hospitals throughout England. It also provides transfusion immunogenetics, platelet and granulocyte immunology investigations nationally. In this role your duties and responsibilities will include: - Working with the National Head of H&I, the H&I management team and the six Heads of Laboratories (HoLs) to continually develop and improve the delivery of services for patients and donors. Conducting business intelligence analyses - information mining and statistical analyses on data resulting from H&I service delivery; helping to develop performance indicators to improve the services we provide. Contributing to requirements analyses and other related activities for developing new and existing H&I IT systems / NHSBT Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) e.g. Hematos, Pulse, OBOS, SpICE etc. Contributing to the development and maintenance of the configuration requirements library for our LIMS. Contributing to the acceptance testing of new IT systems and new functionality in existing IT system for H&I. Provide training to users of our LIMS. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice. Your normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Your normal working days will be Monday to Friday, working 7.5 hours each day.
