You will lead the work of a proactive team that will make a real contribution to innovation for NHSBT and have a major impact on the Donor and patient experience. It will be a great opportunity to work closely with venue suppliers, other Public Sector organisations, and help build lasting relationships. You will join the organisation at a time of challenge but also great excitement, taking decisions and implementing changes that will further improve the life-saving services we provide. The project manager in this post will initially be assigned to projects focused on testing blood to ensure we are providing safe and high-quality products for patients.

Main duties of the job

Managing Blood Supply projects to timely and successful conclusions. Ensure that intended project outcomes are in alignment with the business strategies, that all project budgets are managed effectively, and all operational needs are met. Under the direction of the Programme and Portfolio Manager, you will be responsible for the management of specific projects, ensuring that they are managed to the highest professional standards and comply with all relevant internal and external standards, regulation and instructions. Deputising for the Programme and Portfolio Manager as required and supporting assurance of projects and programmes across the organisation. Supporting Blood Supply portfolio build planning and reporting processes. You may be expected to manage more than one project at any given time at different stages in their lifecycle. Participate in the development and improvement of the NHSBT Portfolio, Programme and Project Management tools and methods. Maintenance of all project artefacts, for example project/programme board update packs, project plans, runbooks, RAIDD logs.

  • Masters degree in relevant subject or demonstrable knowledge and experience to Masters level.
  • Evidence of training in project management methods (e.g. PRINCE II practitioner, agile, waterfall).
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development. (CPD)

  • Significant project management experience, including managing risk and change, production of robust business cases, managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Experience of using project management tools and software to support effect scoping, planning, implementing and monitoring progress. Experience of managing resources, including those not under direct line management control.
  • Good working knowledge of other Microsoft Office tools in particular Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Visio.
  • Knowledge of how to effectively close projects and implement manage lessons learnt throughout the project lifecycle.
