Job summary

To provide a dual administrative and clinical support role within the GP practice, acting both as a frontline medical receptionist and as a prescribing clerk. This role ensures patients receive high-quality, timely access to prescriptions and care, while supporting the clinical team in the safe and effective management of medication and appointments.

Main duties of the job

Process repeat and acute prescription requests using clinical systems i.e. EMIS, or other systems used in NHS Wales, and check requests against patient records, medication reviews, and prescribing guidelines.Liaise with GPs, pharmacists, and clinical staff to clarify prescription queries.Maintain accurate records of prescriptions issued and actions taken.Ensure all prescriptions are handled according to local formulary and All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) guidance.Assist with prescription audits, medication switches, and cost-effective prescribing initiatives.Monitor and action clinical system inboxes/workflows related to medication.Respond professionally to prescription queries from patients, pharmacies, and Care homes. Adhere to practice policies, procedures, and NHS Wales guidelines.

Undertake training relevant to the role i.e. safeguarding, confidentiality, prescribing systems, customer service.
