Newtown Medical Practice is a friendly, forward-thinking surgery providing high-quality care to over 13,600 patients. Our modern, purpose-built premises offer a well-equipped and supportive working environment, using EMIS and Docman 10 clinical systems.
Our team consists of five GP partners, five practice nurses (including three independent prescribing nurses), and three HCAs. We take pride in our collaborative and multidisciplinary approach and are now looking for a skilled Practice Nurse to join us.
Main duties of the job
As a Practice Nurse, you will be an autonomous practitioner, providing care through face-to-face consultations, telephone triage, and minor illness management. Your role will involve:
Chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD)
Minor illness, minor ailments, and injury management
Clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care
Safe clinical decision-making and critical thinking
Providing leadership and supporting the implementation of policies and procedures

Newtown Medical Practice is based in the bustling market town of Newtown on the beautiful Shropshire/Powys border. Being near the Marches border we have the advantage of an attractive rural environment with good links to the national motorway network providing access to both rural hills and coast in one direction and access to the larger urban areas of Shrewsbury, Chester and Birmingham within a reasonable drive time in the other direction.
We are a friendly and supportive practice with 4 partners managing 13,450 patients with a very experienced nursing and admin team well used in multi-disciplinary working.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with a long term condition, and the provision of preventative health care to the practice population. As a practitioner the Nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision-making in the management of patients. They will work collaboratively within the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures, and provide nurse leadership as required.
