The Practice Nurse, in conjunction with the GPs undertakes a wide range of assessments, screenings and care for patients . They will provide a professional service to patients, doctors, staff, health service professionals and others at all times. The management of patients with chronic diseases will form a large part of the workload. Practice Nurses are also required to undertake general treatment room duties including, dressings, wound care, child/adult immunisations, venepuncture and general health screening and health promotion advice.
Main duties of the job
Assist GPs to deliver effective management of patients with chronic conditions
Assist GPs to undertake procedures where required
Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required and perform venepuncture and electrocardiography when required
Undertake basic wound care and perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness
Administer adult and paediatric injections under a Patient Group Direction, ensuring safe storage, disposal of vaccinations of vaccines and drugs. Update relevant paperwork as necessary

Fairfield Surgery is situated within the Port Talbot Resource Centre, with a vision to expand the workforce team. Our clinical team consists of two GP partners alongside 3 long-term GP locums, one Practice Nurse, a Health Care Worker, a Practice Pharmacist and Paramedic with an excellent supportive admin team.
The post requires an enthusiastic, highly motivated Practice Nurse to work within a busy but friendly practice. Experience of working in a primary care setting is desirable but not essential. We are a dedicated practice that delivers a high standard of care to a population of 8,200 patients in the Port Talbot area. The surgery is supported by an excellent clinical and administrative team.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a full range of general Practice Nurse duties in conjunction with the GP, or independently, as appropriate, and according to Practice policy, protocols. Also lead on Chronic disease clinics.
