We are looking to recruit a newly qualified pharmacist or early career pharmacist (up to 12 to 24 months qualified) to work alongside our clinical team.

As a practice we are working to develop a primary care for the future in line with Welsh Government vision for prudent healthcare providing relevant and accessible services for patients.
We are on the HEIW post registration pharmacy foundation programme.
As we are a dispensing practice you will also have the opportune to gain great knowledge and experience in a dispensary.
The successful candidate will work six sessions per week (there is some flexibility on this if wanting to work more). We will fully support them in an IP course with an established Pharmacist designated supervisor.
Main duties of the job
The practice Pharmacist will assist Newtown Medical Practice prescribers in achieving evidence based, costeffective and high quality prescribing in order to assist with the management of the prescribing budget, prescribing initiatives, QIPP and LHB quality targets
In conjunction with the GPs, the jobholder will take initiatives to develop the role of Clinical Pharmacist within the Practice to the highest level developing providing clinical services and advice to patients, and assistance to the doctors, in areas of clinical competence to include treatment, preventive care, screening and patient education.

Being near the Marches border we have the advantage of an attractive rural environment with good links to the national motorway network providing access to both rural hills and coast in one direction and access to the larger urban areas of Shrewsbury, Chester and Birmingham within a reasonable drive time in the other direction.

Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to Newtown Medical Practice clinicians, nonclinical staff and patients as required, in order to promote safe and effective use of medicines
Review, develop, implement, quality assure and take the lead for safe and efficient Repeat Prescribing processes including Repeat Dispensing
Conduct face to face, telephone and notesbased medication reviews, particularly of high risk groups (polypharmacy, frail elderly, renal/hepatic impairment, patients on highrisk medicines, patients with recent unplanned admissions) to ensure optimisation of treatment and reduce inappropriate or wasteful prescribing
Carry out pharmacistled clinics, as appropriate, including minor ailments triage and minor ailments consultations
Review and reconcile medicines changes from secondary care organisations
Manage practice formularies to ensure appropriate selection of medication
Undertake clinical audits to identify areas where improvement is needed develop action plans and implement appropriate changes
Be familiar with, contribute to the development of and work alongside Newtown Medical Practice and LHB projects such as the Virtual Ward
Ensure appropriate governance is in place regarding medicines, including leading on the response to any drug safety alerts or changes in clinical guidance
Lead on the identification, implementation and monitoring of medicines management targets and initiatives including QOF, QIPP and LHB prescribing targets
Develop positive working relationship with health care professionals
Provide customised feedback to individual prescribers on progress so far and action plans
Provide training in medicinesrelated issues to other members of Newtown Medical staff as appropriate
