Job summary

The Senior Healthcare Assistant role will support the Multi Disciplinary Teams (MDT) on the ward to provide safe effective care, which facilitates patients to reach their optimum level of independence. This includes the undertaking of extended tasks which will include the provision of direct patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

The Senior Healthcare Assistant role will work across a seven day week, working a shift pattern of long days. This promotes the importance of a consistent approach to the care and rehabilitation of patient by all staff.

Main duties of the job

To be part of the ward MDT and assist in the implementation of specific treatment programmes or interventions as delegated to them by qualified therapy and nursing staff.

  • Deliver high quality direct clinical care to patients, working in close liaison with the qualified staff on the ward.
  • To maintain a consistent rehabilitation approach to patients, as determined by the assessed patient needs and assist other members of the clinical team to do likewise.
  • To advise and supply ward patients with simple mobility aids, eg walking sticks, zimmer frames, within scope of practice and personal competency.
  • To assist in the induction of new Healthcare Assistants within the ward.
