Job summary

We are currently looking for a HCPC registered experienced Biomedical Scientist delivering specialist Cellular Pathology services which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and clinical care of the patient.

Main duties of the job

This role entails assisting with the specimen throughout in all areas of the department to contribute to a high quality, accurate and timely service to service users and patients.

The post holder would need to have had diagnostic laboratory experience within a hospital laboratory. They will need to be able to cut 25+ blocks per hour from a range of specimens & ideally also able to cut levels.

The shift pattern is Monday to Friday.

Job responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

To work flexibly to support delivery of the histopathology service that is in the best interests of the department and supports the effective processing of the department workload making adjustments to plans according to unforeseen circumstances.

To assist the staff with processing the full range of specimens received and encountered. This includes the areas of Histology, Cytology, Electron Microscopy & Biomedical Imaging, Neuropathology and Mortuary.

To contribute on a daily basis to accurate processing of all types of samples received within all areas of the Department.

To liaise with staff at all levels and within all sections of Cellular Pathology to ensure availability at all times of adequate consumables, reagents, chemicals, solvents and all other items required for service delivery.

To plan and progress own allocated workload making adjustments and communicating such to ensure high quality service continuity.

To be highly skilled in latest techniques and instrumentation in conjunction with traditional methods of investigation to specifically support delivery of the specimen dissection service.

Reception, preparation, processing and processing of specimens using a variety of specialised techniques and equipment.
