Job Purpose:

As the Senior Assistant Technical Officer, you will lead and supervise the Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) in the laboratorys Internal Services Section. You will be responsible for overseeing the processing of laboratory test samples, maintaining laboratory supplies, ensuring equipment is serviced and operational, and managing the cleanliness of the work environment. Your role will also include recording test results, maintaining data in IT systems, and upholding compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Assistant Technical Officers.
  • Read and record test results, including sterility tests, in line with laboratory procedures.
  • Conduct microbiological identification tests using a range of instrumental and classical techniques.
  • Manage and maintain stocks of consumables and equipment, ensuring availability for daily operations.
  • Validate microbiology kits and sterility test samples as per laboratory standards.
  • Ensure completion of all required paperwork, managing deviations, change controls, and out-of-specification results.
  • Carry out basic microbiological tests, including bioburdens and tests on non-sterile samples.
  • Monitor incubation temperatures and storage conditions using the Check-It monitoring system.
  • Oversee the disposal of laboratory waste following Trust procedures.
