to work at Southampton General Hospital to join the bank. As a Registered General Nurse (RGN)
youll provide a high standard of individualised nursing in accordance with
agreed policies, through assessment, planning, implementation, and
evaluation. Youll be responsible for
coordinating all aspects of care delivery, as well as helping to educate
patients, health care assistants, students within the clinical environment.

Main duties of the job
- Give and receive regular reports
on the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patients
condition, and reporting them to the relevant health care professional.
- Work with medical staff and other
members of the healthcare team to ensure that treatments are carried out within
agreed policies.
- Inform relevant parties of any
untoward events or problems affecting patients or staff, and to begin
preliminary action as appropriate.
- Develop an awareness of resources
and cost-effective measures in planning care and managing the workload of the
team.
- Receive patients and their
relatives in a calm, courteous and reassuring manner, participate in providing
information and support.
- Participate in the checking and
administration of intravenous drugs having demonstrated relevant knowledge and
competence and been authorised by senior ward sister/senior ward charge nurse
or matron.
- Co-ordinate the arrangements for
the successful discharge of patients and their continuing care in liaison with
the multi-disciplinary team, in accordance with the Trust policy.
- Ensure that all equipment is in
good working order and ready for immediate use. Appropriately reporting any
defective equipment or provision of supplies

PROFESSIONAL & CLINICAL
- Maintain high standards of
nursing care, ensuring that nursing objectives are achieved using a systematic
approach to nursing care.
- Be responsive to the critically
ill patients fluctuating condition/response to treatments and alter plan of
care accordingly. Continuously utilise skills to interpret changes in the
patients condition.
- Use clinical judgement to
reassess and evaluate patient response to treatment/intervention. Take
appropriate action in response to this within treatment guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate level of
competence and being aware of personal limitations.
- Assess, plan, deliver and
evaluate individualised patient & family centred care and provide support
and advice to other staff as appropriate.
- Receive patients and their
relatives in accordance with recognised policies and ensure that they are kept
informed of treatment and progress.
- Arrange the care of patient's
property, in accordance with Unit policies and within the limitations of
hospital responsibilities.
- Liaise with all members of the
multi-professional team to ensure that all treatments are correctly carried out
in accordance with given policy.

files, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Resuscitation, Health and Safety,
Fire, Infection Control, Major Incident and Risk Management procedures.

using professional standards relating to attitudes, appearance, and conduct.
- Co-ordinate the requirements and
take part in the transfer of patients to other departments within the Trust.
- Take part in the admission and discharge
patients to the department in accordance with Trust and departmental policies.
- Maintain good liaison with other
nursing units and other hospital departments.
- Be familiar with and able to
trouble-shoot all regularly used complex equipment. Ensure all medical
equipment is functional, reporting any faults or potential hazards and
arranging for replacement as necessary.

procedures and clinical developments and be aware of relevant research that
could influence practice.

changes in practice to improve the quality of patient care and contribute to
the development/revision of clinical guidelines.
