Begin your NHS career with our Healthcare Support Worker Development (HCSWD) programme, where you will receive all the training, support, and supervision you need to become a Healthcare Support Worker(HCSW).
We have a unique opportunity to learn on the job atthe Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Trust in several locations.
Depending on your skills and experience, you will join either a 3-month or 6-month paid supervised placement programme.
Work towards your Care Certificate whilst receiving weekly pay, paid annual leave and all the other great benefits NHS Professionals offers our bank members. Once you have successfully completed the programme you will be able to work flexibly at any of our partner Trusts.
Pay Rates:
- Days:£10.42
- Saturdays/Nights:£14.69
- Sunday/Bank Hols:£19.07
Main duties of the job
What the programme involves
During our programme you will work through the 15 Standards of the Care Certificate, learning how to meet the daily living needs of your patients as well as being a part of the NHS healthcare team. This includes supporting Nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing patient care, from hygiene to personal and physical comfort.

Job responsibilities
Typical duties will involve but not limited to:
- Carry out clinical procedures/tasks as required.
- Clinical tasks will be determined by the nature of your work and local policy e.g. monitoring the effects of medication.
- Obtain and test samples and other specimens
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Contribute to discharge process
- Care of wounds
- Check pain levels and requesting pain relieving medication on patients behalf
- Assist in preparing for clinical procedures and clearing the environment afterwards as appropriate
Please note that we require:
- You must beover the age of 18or turning 18 before the planned classroom training week.
- You work at least 30 hours a week across earlies, lates and nights during the programme. This is a total of390 hours over 3 months or 780 hours over 6 months.

- Attendance of Assessment Day Planned for18th July 2023 (Tuesday)
- Attendance of FREE classroom training Planned for14th till 16th August 2023 (Mondaytill Wednesday)
- Attend an Induction week(37.5 hours supervised placement) Planned forAugust/September
After the programme
Once you have completed your placement and the Care Certificate 15 Standards, you can work as a HCSW or HCA for the Trust at any of their locations, and at any of our NHS Professionals partner Trusts, through the bank.
As your first step in healthcare with the NHS, this could provide you with the opportunity to progress your career by accessing further training outside of the programme. In time, you could become a Senior Healthcare Assistant. After that, you could then apply to train as an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate, enabling further career avenues such as a Nurse, Podiatrist or Midwife.
