Job summary

Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre are recruiting for a salaried GP, we are flexible on the number of sessions per week.

We are a teaching practice involved in training GPs and FY2 doctors and medical students from the UEA. Our aim is for all those working at the practice to feel valued, respected and mutually supported. As part of a healthy work-life balance, GPs have 15- minute appointments. Our clinical team members benefit from excellent support from our highly experienced, professional and friendly practice support team. From 2026, Hoveton and Wroxham Medical Centre will be managing primary care services at the new Magna Medical Centre in Rackheath. You may be expected to work across both sites.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of our multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to support and care for a diverse patient group. The role will include all general duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, to include:

  • Holding a patient list
  • Being prepared to undertake "on the day" duty responsibilities
  • Undertaking the administration related to their role and "buddy" cover during other GPs absence
  • Undertaking a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, and patients in care homes;
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting medical problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation;
  • Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems;
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness;
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols;
  • Providing health education;
  • Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards;
  • Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements;
  • Delivering enhanced services;
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions;
  • All general duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre is a well-established, semi-rural practice with a patient population of around 10,000. We are a 7-doctor dispensing practice and we pride ourselves on how our teams work together to provide a high-quality, effective, efficient and reliable services to our practice population. We treat our patients with respect, dignity and the upmost care and compassion, and are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve our services.

Our clinical staff comprises of a multi-skilled nursing team including nurse prescribers, a pharmacy team and dedicated management, clinical support, administrative and reception teams. We are supported by additional roles including mental health support team, first contact physiotherapy and social prescriber.

This is a friendly practice which is undergoing rapid expansion. The practice has a homely, supportive and caring atmosphere putting the patients and staff at the heart of everything it does.
